 2022 Preview 


       Shelby County completed the 2021 season with a 5-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 5A region three, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Shelby County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Faith Academy by a score of 42-14.

       Since 2010, the Shelby County football program has struggled with a record of 39-81.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Shelby County has managed to compile a record of 122-141. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 5A and 236th in the AHSAA.




       The Wildcats are led by head coach Zeb Ellison who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 5-5 record in his first season at Shelby County. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Ellison.

       Coach Ellison's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 21-12 (63.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Ellison's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

       The Shelby County Wildcats will play in Class 5A region three during the 2022 season.

       The Wildcats will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season.

       The Wildcats open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent West Blocton on Friday, August 19 at Wildcats Stadium. Last year the West Blocton Tigers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 4A region three. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Vigor by a score of 40-0.

       Shelby County and West Blocton have met a total of 21 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 6-14-1 record against the Tigers. They last met in 1999 with Shelby County winning by a score of 41-7.

The Alabama High School Athletic Association was first organized in 1921.
